![]() ![]() ![]() Like I said, the first 8 or 9 episodes were very promising and engaging and I genuinely had no idea where the story was going, which I love in a drama. Others might be more generous or severe, but I think 7 is fair score for a show that obviously tried very hard at being original and different, but ultimately fell short at the end. I gave it an overall 7 because I felt there was enough to like about the show and it had an interesting premise, so I could give it a more forgiving score. If I ignored the latter part of the show, then I would be giving it a solid 9. When deciding on a rating for the story element of this show, I debated internally for a while. All things seem to be going well for both parties, however, things take a turn for the worse when Yoo Jin discovers a bug in the game and both his life and Hee Joo’s are changed forever. Through this decision, Yoo Jin and Hee Joo’s lives are now intertwined. In fear of Hyung Seok buying the game before he does, he quickly convinces Hee Joo to sell the hostel, as this is the name under which Se Joo created the game patent. ![]() At the same time, Yoo Jin also discovers that his previous friend and co-founder of J-One, Cha Hyung Seok (played by Park Hoon), who is also the CEO of a rival company, is aware of this game as well. The next day, he discovers that Se Joo is in fact Hee Joo’s younger brother, and he finds out that he’s expected at the train station that morning. While waiting for Se Joo to arrive, Yoo Jin plays the game in Granada and is amazed by how realistic and vivid it is. This is how he meets Jung Hee Joo (played by Park Shin Hye), owner of the hostel and the main bread-winner of her family after both her parents passed away. Curious, Jin Woo travels to Granada to meet him and stays the night at Hostel Bonita, a run-down motel run by a South Korean family. He receives a cryptic phone call from Jung Se Joo (played by Park Chan Yeol), a teenage kid who develops games, asking to meet him at Hostel Bonita in Granada, Spain to discuss a game he had just developed. The story follows Yoo Jin Woo (played by Hyun Bin), CEO of J-One, an investment company which focuses on optical lenses used for virtual reality. And this exactly how I felt after watching this show. If anyone can just do anything they wanted and consequences for breaking certain rules are applied inconsistently, then viewers will be left confused and upset. Even within a fantasy world, there are rules and limits to prevent the story from becoming nonsensical. But there’s a limit to how much the boundaries can be pushed. I understand the whole premise of the show is not set in reality and things will not always have a logical scientific explanation. ![]() The writing, in all honesty, became incoherent and illogical. While it started out very promising, the second half just collapsed. It also came highly rated so I thought this would be the perfect drama. There was a good balance of comedy, drama and action and enough intrigue to make you want to know more about the characters and story. I must say, the first episode got me hooked straight away. After watching Crash Landing on You I wanted to see more Hyun Bin content and this show seemed perfect for it.
